Dependency on alcohol can be predominant reason for depression. This is because excessive intake of alcohol has a toxic effect on the level of neurotransmitters, especially serotonin. The habit of over consumption of alcohol can lead to a considerable depletion in the level of this neurotransmitter which can lead to the progression of depression. However, the opposite also stands true as research has proven that people surviving a depressive state of mind often take to alcohol to seek relief from their turbulent mind.
It is known that increase in the frequency of alcohol intake feeds the depressive state of mind. The euphoric feeling often experienced after the intake of this sedating drug is often replaced by feelings of petulance, drowsiness and irritability. In case, the consumption fails to get reduced, the balance or the motor co-ordination becomes all the more impaired. Consequently, at the end the desire to sleep governs over every other feeling and the drinker tends to pass out.
On the other hand, according to experts, depression may be a withdrawal symptom of alcohol. This problem may escalate among those teenagers who start to seek another sedative after undergoing an alcohol abuse. Blame it on the addictive property of this hypnotic; many doctors strictly dissuade patients of depression from the intake of alcohol. |
