Depression and Genetics

There are some medical conditions and diseases that can be passed from one generation to the next and there has been proof that depression is one of these types of conditions. There have been many extensive studies done involving depression and there is enough proof to be certain this is one of the medical conditions that can be passed from generation to generation.

This means if a parent has depression it is possible for any or all of their children to suffer from the same condition. At the same time this is also a condition that can be caused by disease and other reasons, it does not have to be passed from parent to child.

It is recommended that for a person that depression runs in their family to be aware of the signs of depression and the symptoms. This can mean getting treatment early if the signs of this condition appear and with a family history of depression the physician will be able to diagnose the condition and prescribe medications or for the person that does not want to take synthetic drugs there are natural remedies that can be taken.
