Treating Depression with Norepinephrine and Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitors

Anti depressants that have the reuptake inhibitor combination of norepinephrine and dopamine are known as NDRIs and can be used in the treatment of depression to relieve symptoms like sadness. They are able to help with mood and other symptoms by working with the brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters, which are associated with depression. Both norepinephrine and dopamine are two of these neurotransmitters that research has shown when abnormal can affect the mood.

These work by increasing the level of the norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake cells and at the same time increase the level of neurotransmitters in the brain. The NDRIs improve these levels, which then decreases the symptoms of depression.

The thought with most antidepressants is that they work in a way that increases the brain receptors, then this keeps the nerve cells sensitive to glutamate control. This keeps the glutamate level low, so it is unable to reach points in the brain that can cause the symptoms of depression and anxiety.
