Nardil is an antidepressant that is normally reserved for the patient suffering from depression that has not responded to the more commonly prescribed antidepressants. This is an effective medication for the treatment of manic depression and other depression disorders, which has some side effects associated with its use. In most cases the common side effects decrease as the body becomes used to the antidepressant and in cases where rare or severe side effects occur it is important to speak with the physician immediately. The Common Side Effects
- Nervous system effects like dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, hypersomnia, headache, fatigue, weakness, tremors, twitching and hyperreflexia.
- Metabolic, weight gain is associated with the use of Nardil
- Gastrointestinal side effects can include; dry mouth, constipation, gastrointestinal complaints and elevated serum transaminases
- Other mild side effects can include ejaculation difficulties and impotence, edema and postural hypotension.
The Less Common Side Effects
- Jitters
- Euphoria
- Urinary retention
- Hypernatremia
- Blurred vision
- Glaucoma
- Skin rash
- Sweating
There can be some rare side effects that affect a small amount of Nardil users and they can include; hypermetabolic syndrome, tachycardia, muscular rigidity, glottis, fever, acidosis, elevated CK levels and coma.
