Nefazodone is an antidepressant drug for mentally balancing the brain; though it is the best drug for depression patients it also has many side effects. Nefazodone may cause dry mouth, sedation (somnolence), orthostatic hypotension, hepatatoxicity (liver damage), weakness, blurred vision or abnormal vision, nausea, lightheadedness, dizziness and also in over dosage conditions it may also cause fainting, allergic reactions, painful erection, jaundice, excessive sweating, difficult urination.
Nefazodone may also cause uncontrolled shaking of body parts, fever irregular heartbeat, difficulty in speech and mobility. This drug may also cause changes in sex drive ability and can cause the skin to become more sensitive than usual.
To avoid these side effects to some extent this drug has to be used according to the directions given by the doctor or pharmacist to avoid unwanted side effects of an over does of the antidepressant. The patient has to take some precautions before using this drug, inform your doctor if you are using any other medicines recently. This is because these drugs may have interactions, inform the doctor if you have under gone any surgery recently and using drugs for it or if you have taken any nonprescribed drugs for cold or fever. If the patient has taken fluoxetine recently he has to wait till the effect of this drug is decreased, also Nefazodone causes drowsiness so consumption of alcohol has to be avoided to reduce the side effects.
