Nefazodone is also called by the name Serzone,Nefadar is used as an antidepressant drug, for the treatment of depression, anxiety and panic disorders. This is a medication that must be prescribed by the physician after consulting about other medications that are taken for health conditions.
Nefazodone is an antagonist and shows moderate and low affinity towards adrenergic receptors (moderate for 5-HTreceptor and low for D2 receptor, serotonin), weak affinity towards SNDRI, and shows negligible for H1 receptor with no side effects.
Dosages of Nefazodone for adults can be given up to 100mg/day in order of 50mg twice a day, in exceptional cases treatment for the patient can be by giving the dosage up to 600mg/day if severe depression persists.
This drug causes side effects like dry mouth, abnormal vision, allergic reaction, prolonged erection which can also be called as priapism, jaundice but this drug does not affect any sexual functions or appetite. It is an inhibitor of CYP3A4 isozyme of cytochrome so it easily interacts with many other medicines of similar composition.
An advantage of Nefazodone drug is that it doesn’t affect any sexual functioning mechanism and can be used as an antidepressant drug, but is shows some side effects when used for migraine prophylaxis.
