Can depression cause sleep apnea?

Depression is the mental disorder that consists of delayed sadness. This disorder brings about a number of changes in the patterns of sleep. However, till now there is no clear link found between depression and sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that is characterized by repeated problem in breathing while sleeping. This disorder is generally not noticed by the victim of the disorder.

This condition can cause continuous fatigue throughout the day. The people who are suffering from depression are 5 times more prone to the disease sleep apnea than the normal people. Till now the cause as well as the effect of this fact is not quite clear. The depression as well as sleep apnea is found to be sharing certain causes.

There are chances that depression could cause sleep apnea and sleep apnea also could cause depression. It has been found that certain treatments of sleep apnea are able to reduce depression. The changes in the patterns of sleep, fatigue and irritability are the common symptoms of sleep apnea and depression. The researchers have a suspicion that the diseases cannot be diagnosed properly. None of the researches regarding these two diseases have been able to confirm whether sleep apnea causes depression or not.
