How to take Mirtazapine OD

Mirtazapine is one of the most widely used anti-depressant, also acclaimed as more effective than other structurally similar drugs. Mirtazapine tablets come in the 15, 30 and 45 mg, and should be stored at room temperature.

Mirtazapine also interacts with many drugs, and like other anti-depressants, it enhances and fortifies the effect of alcohol, thereby increasing the sedation. Hence, it is generally not recommended to consume with alcohol. Usually, Mirtazapine is given at bedtime to patients, with the dosage being about 15 mg a day for depression. A doctor might increase the dosage by 15 mg every week over a period of several weeks, but this is decided by a close examination of the patient. This might go up to 45 mg a day and larger dosage than this is not recommended, but cases have been there where patients have been given up to a 120 mg a day successfully for treatment of manic depression.

Mirtazapine may or may not be taken with food. Aged people or those patients with a history or suffering from kidney diseases should be more cautious, since the side effects may affect these people to greater degree. In addition, epileptic people might experience an exacerbation of psychotic behavior, as would those who suffer from mania.
