How to take Moclobemide

Unlike other MAOIs and anti-depressants, Moclobemide does not require the patient to choose a very strict and specific diet. However, it is strongly recommended that the patient avoid foods like fava beans, cheese, etc when undergoing Moclobemide medications. Similar to other drugs, it might take time for a patient to respond to Moclobemide, during which he should not take excessive dosages that might result into serious complications.

For its treatment to relieve depressive illnesses, a daily dosage of 300 mg per day is recommended, which is usually divided twice or three times per day. Since Moclobemide gets heavily absorbed within the body, but gradually shows effect, the increment of the amount of dosage should never be sudden. Over weeks, the dosage maybe increased as high as 600 mg a day, especially for patients poorly responding to the drug.

Dosage of Moclobemide is being used to treat anxiety disorders might be a higher amount for successful treatment. About 600 mg a day is usually recommended in the initial days in this case. Moreover, a long-term therapy is usually done for people suffering from chronic disorders, in which the dose should be carefully increased or decreased with the response of the patient being a detrimental factor. The patient should be observed for about 4 weeks, before deciding the next step of the treatment.
