The full form of VNS therapy is Vagus Nerve Stimulation therapy. The Vagus Nerve Stimulation has been approved by the United States food and Drug Administration as a suitable treatment for depression in the month of July in the year 2005. A study was conducted regarding the dosing of the Vagus Nerve stimulation. This study aimed at comparing the effectiveness as well as the safety of the Vagus Nerve Stimulation therapy. The study was conducted across twenty nine study centers that involved three hundred and thirty one adult patients of depression. The patients were randomly given doses of one of the three stages (low, medium, high).
The dosage continued for twenty two weeks. After twenty two weeks, the patients who were given the low as well as the medium stages treatment were again given increased levels for stimulation. The patients continued with the study for duration of fifty four weeks. After the study the patients experienced increased level of satisfaction. The entire group of patients was experiencing an overall similar kind feeling of relaxation. The patients given high doses were having equivalent feeling as the multiple dosed low and medium stage patients.
